When it comes to looking good on dating apps, men are always looking for ways to get a step up on the competition. Some try to show off their appearance, while others are forced to show their sense of humor. One area people always feel gives them an advantage is including their pets in photos, but a new study has revealed men who hold their cat in their profile picture have a less likely chance of being selected on dating apps.

The study, done by scientists at the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, at Colorado State University, found that men who have photos holding their cat are perceived as “less dateable” and “less masculine” by women. The scientists determined this by asking straight women, aged between 18 and 24, to rate the same man posing with and without a cat on his lap.

Overall, the majority of women who were asked found the men holding cats to be less dateable and masculine, while also rating them higher on the neuroticism. While there are many cat lovers out there, apparently showing your love for cats isn’t good for dating. Maybe men with cats should try taking a photo with a dog instead.
