Blue October frontman Justin Furstenfeld recently joined Ian Camfield ahead of their upcoming North American tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of their album, Foiled. The band will embark on a five month trek to honor the breakthrough project for the band, now able to approach the raw emotions of the LP in a healthy headspace.

Revisiting Foiled after two decades offered Justin a fresh perspective. He admits to rarely listening to his released catalog, preferring to focus on working demos or ambient sleep music. Returning to the album, he appreciated its raw emotional balance of self-loathing, depression, addiction, and romantic hope.
“It's a really good album,” he remembers thinking when going back to the release. “This is the right amount of self-pity, the right amount of self-loathing, the right amount of depression, the right amount of addiction, and the right amount of positive, romantic reinforcement.”
“The thing I liked about it was it sounded like Pharrell and Kanye West produced an Alternative band, and that's what I liked about it,” he adds. “I was like, ‘that is me. That is my style.’”
Performing these introspective tracks today as a sober, happy individual allows Justin to celebrate the material with gratitude rather than falling back into past struggles. "We never toured for that album, so now 20 years later we're touring for it, and to be able to play such romantically sad music as a happy person, it's so much better."
