Rodriguez starred as Blanca Evangelista, a fiercely loving house mother and nurse, and is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. However, this Pose victory isn't an isolated incident. Billy Porter has also been nominated in the category, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, for his role as Pray Tell for the third consecutive time. He won in this category in 2019 during the show's first season. Pose snagged an nomination for Outstanding Drama Series.

Co-creator of the series, Steven Canals was also recognized for his work on the series and was nominated in two categories: Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series and Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series.

For years, fans have demanded Pose be recognized for its dynamic storytelling and today, we are truly rejoicing. Prior to Rodriguez's nomination, only two other transgender performers have been recognized by the Television Academy for their work. Laverne Cox was the first ever to be nominated for Outstanding Guest Actress in both a comedy and drama series. In 2020, Rain Valdez of Razor Tongue snagged a nomination for Outstanding Actress In A Short Form Comedy Or Drama Series.

If Rodriguez wins, she will be the first ever transgender performer to win an Emmy. The 2021 Emmys airs Sunday, September 19 and will be hosted by Cedric The Entertainer.
