A sealed and very old copy of Nintendo's Super Mario Bros. recently sold at auction for the record smashing fee of $660,000! It's the incredible and sorta sad backstory though that makes this more interesting. The anonymous seller said it was purchased as a Christmas gift in 1985 but put into a desk and forgotten about for 35 years.

"It probably originally sold for $60 in 1985 which is almost $150 in 2021 money," says Gregr. "How the eff do video games still sell for $60-ish in 2021 when they're infinitely better quality?!"

There’s a whole lot more beautiful nerdiness where this came from. Listen weekdays at noon on your favorite Audacy Alternative stations. Download the free app now to listen on the go!
