Hollywood’s biggest films were celebrated at the 2021 Oscars.

The 93rd annual Academy Awards felt like a reckoning with the past year, signaling hope for the future as the biggest award show of the year went off without a hitch, albeit with a new format.

“Nomadland” nabbed some of the biggest accolades of the night, even making history as Chloé Zhao became the first woman of color to win best directing for the film.

And a “Minari” star reacted how we all would if we met Brad Pitt.

Regina King kicks off the show with cinematic opening

Regina King strolled through LA's Union Station in a dramatic sequence at the start of the show. The intro set the tone for the night, a flourish of elegance, but not too over-the-top as festivities resumed after an uncertain year. The “One Night in Miami” director looked great doing it, walking to the page to present the night's first awards in a gorgeous Louis Vuitton dress.

‘Nomadland’ cleans up, howls and makes history

“Nomadland” took away some of the top awards of the evening. Chloé Zhao made history early in the evening, becoming the first woman in history to get the best directing award. Frances McDormand also earned her third best actress award for her role in the film. She also howled into the mic while accepting the award for best picture (“We give this one to our wolf”).

Twitter is confused after realizing there was a live-action ‘Pinocchio’

How’d this one slip through the cracks? History was made when Mia Neal and Jamika Wilson, the styling team for “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” became the first Black women to win the award for best makeup and hairstyling. But during the category, some viewers got confused when they realized a live-action “Pinocchio” was a thing. “When did they slip a new Pinocchio past me,” comedian Paul F. Tompkins tweeted. “Pinocchio had a live action movie?!?!?!?!” another Twitter user commented.

‘Minari’ star Yuh-Jung Youn gushes at meeting Brad Pitt

Yuh-Jung Youn won the best supporting actress award for her role in “Minari.” When she went up on the stage to accept the award, she was flattered to meet the category presenter, Brad Pitt. “Mr. Brad Pitt, finally nice to meet you,” she said flustered into the mic. Later in the press room, Youn joked that when Pitt, who’s a producer on “Minari,” called her name, she “blacked out for a couple seconds.”

Glenn Close shakes ‘Da Butt’

What began as a “Name the Song” segment led by Questlove and Lil Rey ended with Glenn Close shaking her stuff. The “Hillbilly Elegy” star identified the oldies song “Da Butt” — and did the dance of the same name, shaking her booty in her blue Armani dress.
