For the mystical Norwegian songstress, AURORA, her inner voice has always been “loving,” but oftentimes the artist has felt that the rest of the world hasn’t always understood her perspective.
However, her newest single, “Cure For Me,” is quick to shut down the voices that demand we fit into some sort of social “norm.” In her charming, beguiling, and witty ways, AURORA uses her latest single as a vehicle to call out the absurdity of shame, shame around human nature, and shame around natural urges.
While in conversation with Audacy, the artist was vehement when she said, “I find shame to be such a useless way of spending our time here on Earth, and I feel like it’s such a waste of energy also and human potential.”
She adds, “I kind of felt myself slowly fall in love with humans again, and human nature and kind of understand how poetic we can be when we’re just allowed to exist as we please.”

The “Runaway” singer tells us that the new song exists for anyone who is simply trying to just be. The song is for “everyone who has a reason to celebrate themselves,” says AURORA. She adds that the song is meant to “speak for some people louder than others because there are so many small and big groups of people, and individuals that are being suppressed.”
“It’s definitely pointed at the LGBTQIA+ community, but also towards… anyone out there who knows that they are different or who has felt that they are different from the world around them.”
When watching AURORA’s whimsical, masquerade-like music video for her latest track, one gets the feeling that the singer is in on the inside joke. She pokes fun at the idea that feeling shame for being who you are is absurd, but still puts tender care and compassion into her lyrics to reassure listeners.
The song’s theatrical sounding production, thanks to a collaboration with Magnus, also mirrors the idea that shame for being yourself can be heavy, but is a silly standard that we have all placed on ourselves.
Between “Cure For Me’s” lyrics, production, and visual aspect, the theatrical song harmoniously juxtaposes the comedy and tragedy around shame.
“I knew from the start that I wanted this song to be filled with personality and humor, and to feel like I could meet hatred with laughter,” explains AURORA. Attempting to fill her visuals and sound with whimsy, she adds, “that should also be not taking the world’s opinions of you so seriously…and also I chose a lot of the percussion sounds to fit my type of brain…all of the sounds kind of tickle my brain in a very satisfying way.”
AURORA’s “Cure For Me” is just a taste of what is to come on her next project. Aiming to look “skyward,” the singer has been inspired by history and the greek gods in order to create music that expresses the human experience.
“This album has a lot to do with history, and I guess our past, and how we’ve changed, and how we’ve done so many beautiful things, and so many horrible things and how we have learned and not learned from our history,” notes AURORA.
The singer tells us that she spun together her next project in a castle, located in the Norwegian town, Rosendal, in order to let history and nature organically be woven into the project that will examine human nature.
