My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way is speaking up in the name of mental health

On March 2nd, My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way will be taking the virtual stage to speak during an event that aims to end the stigma around mental health.

“Unwound & Unplugged” is a virtual mental health awareness event that is looking to bring support to those coping with mental illness, anxiety, and isolation. Way will join Julien BakerDeathbyRomy, and host Dr. Mike Friedman to provide a virtual support event filled with music.

The event arrives on the National Day of Unplugging and begins at 8PM ET/ 5PM PT. Musical performances will also be accompanied by a live discussion panel. The day is all about focusing on seeking ways to meaningfully connect with people and taking time to step away from scrolling on smartphones.

Gerard, Baker, and DeathbyRomy will speak candidly about their own mental health and offer relatable stories about dealing with isolation and maintaining important social connections.

In an Instagram post about the upcoming event, the MCR frontman writes, “I know that it’s a really tough time for everyone right now. Coming together as a community and speaking openly about mental health is more relevant than ever.”
