Whether you love them or hate them, remakes are as popular now as ever before.
Look no further than this year’s Academy Awards, of which two of the best picture nominees are remakes: West Side Story and Dune.

Then there’s Disney, the undisputed leader in the business of recycling classics. Among multiple others, the following remakes are expected to be released in the coming years: The Aristocats, Cheaper by the Dozen, Peter Pan & Wendy, Three Men and a Baby, Pinocchio, and The Little Mermaid.
Then there's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which actor Peter Dinklage publicly condemned in recent weeks.
With remakes on the brain, here are five Disney remakes which are less rage-inducing than most:
Beauty And The Beast, 2017
The Belle of the ball of Disney remakes, Beauty And The Beast is a faithful yet refreshing live-action retelling of the 1991 animation.
After her father is taken captive for alleged theft by the Beast, played by Dan Stevens, the main character Belle, played by Emma Watson, opts to take his place trapped in the dilapidated castle. As his prisoner, Belle and the Beast form an unlikely bond, with Belle able to see past his rough exterior and help him grow beyond his formerly selfish ways.
A truly magical retelling of a timeless story, Beauty And The Beast's soundtrack will have you and your family singing for days.

Alice In Wonderland, 2010
One of the live-action remakes that kicked off this current trend, Alice In Wonderland's movie roots date right back to the beginning of cinema in the early 1900s.
Side note: If you have any interest in the origins of cinema, you must watch Cecil Hepworth and Percy Stow's 1903 version of Lewis Carroll's story.
Back to 2010, and this remake remains true to the original story as it follows Alice, played by Mia Wasikowska, as she finds her way back to Underland, a magical larger-than-life world found down a rabbit hole. Here, she ventures to dethrone the tyrannical Red Queen, along with the help of The Mad Hatter, played by Johnny Depp.

The Jungle Book, 2016
A staple of almost every childhood this century, Jon Favreau's 2016 version of The Jungle Book sees Mowgli, played by Neel Sethi, attempt to escape the claws of a tiger named Shere Khan, played by Idris Elba, who is set on capturing the young man-cub.
An Oscar winner for its stunning visual effects, The Jungle Book is a star-studded must-see for generations old and new.

The Lion King, 2019
Another Favreau live-action remake, this version once more features some extraordinary visual effects as it depicts lion prince Simba, played by Donald Glover, venturing far beyond his home on a journey to adulthood.
Led once more by a star-studded cast including Beyoncé, Seth Rogen, and James Earl Jones, this tearjerker will surely go down as a classic for today's generation.

Pete's Dragon, 2016
Pete's Dragon is the story of Pete, a young orphan played by Oakes Fegley, and his dragon friend Elliot as the townsfolk venture to capture the dragon.
This modern remake of the 1977 original is very different in its overall style, and for those who find 70s era cheesy family movies a bit much nowadays - this is the version for you.
