Record Store Day 2022 is set to go down this Saturday, April 23 making it the perfect time to head to your local record store and celebrate.

After COVID-19 put a pause on many in-person gatherings, Record Store Day 2022 will see the return of a more “traditional” format as stores will be bringing in bands for special performances and offer a variety of other activities to celebrate the day.

Back in January, Record Store Day organizers announced that Taylor Swift will serve as the Global Record Store Day Ambassador in 2022. “Record stores are so important because they help to perpetuate and foster music-loving as a passion,” she said in a statement at the time.

One of the highlights of Record Store Day is the lengthy list of exclusive releases that can only be bought in person, in record stores.

Due to production and manufacturing delays brought on by COVID-19, the organizers behind Record Store Day have designated June 18 as a “RSD Drops date.” While plenty of titles will be available on April 23, the day serves as a safety net should any title encounter a delay that would make it unavailable on Record Store Day.

Record Store Day breaks out their releases into three different categories. The first is “exclusives,” which are titles physically released only at independent record stores. The second is “RSD First,” which are titles first found at record stores, but may be released to other retailers or online in the future. The final category is “Small Run/Regional Titles,” which are regionally based and sold at specific stores, or hard to find press runs of under 1,000 copies at stores around the country.

There’s plenty of releases to get excited about. Red Hot Chili Peppers will be releasing a special vinyl edition of their most recent record Unlimited Love. The Rolling Stones will be dropping a 50th anniversary edition of More Hot Rocks that comes on glow-in-the-dark vinyl.

Another notable release comes from Pixies, who are releasing Live from Coachella 2004 on orange and yellow vinyl. The recording comes from a distinct period in the band’s history as it was one of the first reunion shows they performed after nearly a decade-long hiatus.

Other artists with releases lined up include Alice In Chains, Black Pumas, Blur, David Bowie, Cold War Kids, The Cure, Devo, The Doors, Foo Fighters, Grateful Dead, Elton John, Judas Priest, The Lumineers, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Nicks, The Offspring, Iggy Pop, Ramones, St. Vincent, and many, many more.
