Well, you knew it was a possibility and now here we are. The Strokes will no longer be performing this New Year’s Eve at New York City’s Barclays Center, citing the current spread of the coronavirus Omicron variant that has gripped the city in recent weeks.

What would have been the band's first New Year’s Eve concert in two years, with openers Idles and Hinds, will now have to happen at a later time.
"We were so excited to be performing for everyone in Brooklyn this New Year's Eve, but the Omicron variant has thwarted our plans. We’ve made the decision to postpone our show at Barclays Center," the band announced on social media. "All tickets will be honored for the rescheduled date & details regarding refunds will be offered when the new date is announced. We want everyone to stay safe and healthy and we look forward to celebrating the new year with all of you... just a bit later than originally planned."
Fret not... The band plans on rescheduling the celebration at a later date with all tickets to be honored and refunds to be made available for those who cannot attend. Additionally, The Strokes are scheduled to hit the road with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Beck in 2022 -- for now.
