Even main characters weren’t stoked on the “Game of Thrones” ending.
Maisie Williams, who played Arya Stark on the hit HBO television show, recently hopped on Twitch with her brother James this week and said she’d just rewatched the show from front to back.
When asked what her current thoughts on the program were she responded that it “definitely fell off at the end.”
“It started really strong,” she did comment. “It kind of popped off. I could never see it from the outside. So I could never say that and actually understand it. For the first time, it feels good to be proud of it. It was 10 years of my life.”
The actress even touched parts of the show that really got to her. Williams said she was “heartbroken” when her character’s father, played by Sean Bean, was killed off. Even if she “knew it was coming.”
Swinging back around to the show’s final episodes, Williams definitely had some thoughts on how things played out overall and for her character.
“I wanted Arya to kill Cersei even if it means she dies too,” Williams offered. “Even up to the point when Cersei’s with Jamie I thought, ‘He’s going to whip off his face [and reveal it’s Arya]’ and they’re both going to to die. I thought that’s what Arya’s drive had been.”
She offered up her final rumination saying, “It’s not a ‘Game of Thrones’ ending for Arya, it’s a happy ending. It gave me a place to take Arya that I never thought I’d go with her again.”
Williams most recently appeared in the FX miniseries “Pistol.”
