During the band's recent twofer of shows at New York City's Madison Square Garden on November 14 and 15, singer Matty Healy shared his feelings about The 1975 being excluded from the GRAMMYs' esteemed nominees lists.

On night two at The Garden on Wednesday (11/15), Matty Healy flat out said he believed The 1975 not being considered for GRAMMY awards over the years was "a f***ing outrage," adding, "the reason people don’t say that is ’cause it’s not a very tasteful thing to say. But I’m way past tasteful."
“Are you f***ing mental?! Are they f***ing mental?!,” he asked the NYC crowd before listing off two of the band’s offerings he feels deserve much more acclaim; 2016’s A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships, and 2018’s I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful yet So Unaware of It. “Nothing. F*** off! D***heads. What the f*** are they on about?” Healy continued, "I mean, ‘About You’ just on its own merits deserves a f***ing GRAMMY,” he said of their 2022 Being Funny in a Foreign Language single. "I mean, I don’t really care that much, but it just winds me up.”
Matty certainly could have stopped right there, but he chose to punctuate his rant saying, "I'm not being self-celebratory, but Kanye's one of my heroes," referring to the embattled rapper now known simply as Ye. "You know what? You’ve gotta f***ing believe in yourself. He's an awkward hero to have right now, I understand that. But separate the anti-Semitism -- just think about the self-belief. Literally, tell me one band in the past four years that could do what we’re gonna do in the next three minutes," Healy said before launching into their next song. It's worth noting that the Recording Academy did nominate The 1975's I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful yet So Unaware of It for a Best Boxed Set Packaging GRAMMY in 2017, and for Best Rock Song in 2020 for their A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships single, "Give Yourself A Try."
