Usually when people get stuck in traffic, all they want to do is get to the front so they can angrily stare at whatever caused the backup.

However, a group of Texas drivers were in for a surprise recently, as what they saw before speeding off wasn’t a normal cause for a traffic jam.

An alligator taking a nap on a highway was spotted in Houston this week, causing a major traffic build up as authorities worked to safely remove the gator.

The alligator encounter occurred on the Fred Hartman Bridge in Houston. While drivers in that area deal with traffic on a regular basis, usually it is caused by an accident, or a large amount of cars on the road, not an alligator.

The Harris County Precinct 8 Constable's Office shared photos of the alligator on their Facebook page, captioning the post: “Texas Parks and Wildlife has been notified so he (or she) can be safely relocated. In the meantime, it seems to be napping!”

Facebook users chimed in with some golden zingers.

"You have the right to remain silent, anything you say or do will be held against you🤣🤣... poor baby," one user wrote.

"A hog tied gator.... that’s a first," wrote another. Only in Texas.

According to Brobible it took five officers to corral the alligator, as it thrashed around a bit once woken up. Luckily the gator was safely removed and no one was harmed in the process.

Hopefully after this incident, alligator crossing signs don’t start popping up.
