The Padres lost a game that was theirs for the taking on Tuesday evening in New York. Michael King earned a quality start in his return to the Bronx, allowing just 2 runs over 6 innings of work. With the game tied 2-2 in the top of the 7th inning, Fernando Tatis Jr. hit an RBI-double into the right-center field gap to give the Padres a 3-2 lead. After Luis Arraez drew a walk to load the bases, Manny Machado struck out to end the threat without bringing in any insurance runs.
The Padres' lead was short-lived, as the Yankees strung together 7 hits and 3 walks (2 intentional) to score 10 runs in the frame, punctuated by Austin Wells' grand slam off of Wandy Peralta. All 10 runs were earned, and charged to Adrian Morejon and Peralta. The rubber match in this series will feature Dylan Cease going up against Max Fried.
