Bring out the celebratory Bundt cake – there’s going to be a third “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” movie!

Nia Vardalos, the writer and star of the first two movies, confirmed the news on Instagram, sharing that she has a third movie ready to go in the rom-com series.

“Yes, it is true that for over a year we have been trying to film a script that I wrote called ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3.’ But what is also true is that we are not filming because even though we are distributed by Universal Studios as usual, and of course the entire cast is invited back and we are trying to employ hundreds of people, the fact is that we are an independent film,” shared Vardalos.

Vardalos claimed the COVID-19 pandemic is making getting insurance for smaller productions very difficult.

The 58-year-old continued, stating that “apparently, independent films cannot get insurance.” Vardalos, whose Instagram bio reads “if you have independent-film insurance, I now do read DMs,” said that “when we get film insurance, we are going to Greece to film.”

The original movie, which premiered in theaters in 2002, was produced by Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson. It starred Vardalos, John Corbett as her love interest, and featured Andrea Martin, Michael Constantine, Lainie Kazan, Gia Carides and NSYNC’s Joey Fatone as members of her extended Greek family.

After the movie’s box office success, “My Big Fat Greek Life,” a television series based on the film, aired in 2003. In 2016, a sequel that told the story of Constatine and Kazan's characters' wedding, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2,” premiered.

Vardalos joked that “the news leaked because one Greek found out” about the sequel and said that she appreciates the enthusiasm for the third chapter in the story but teased that people “could stop calling my mom’s house and asking if you can be in it.”

Has anyone considered asking Windex to underwrite the production?
