BALTIMORE (105.7 The Fan) -- Chris Davis set the kind of record Monday night that no hitter wants.
Davis now has the most consecutive at-bats by a position player without a hit: The Baltimore Orioles slugger is hitless in his last 49 at-bats, dating back to 2018. Davis has struck out in 27 of those 49 at-bats.
Davis set the record for the most futile streak in his third at-bat Monday night en route to going 0-for-5 in the Orioles' 12-4 home win over the Oakland A's. Davis is 0-for-28 with 15 strikeouts in nine games this season.
Davis moved within range of the ignominious record during a weekend series against the New York Yankees: He struck out in all three of his at-bats Thursday in the Orioles' home opener, went 0-for-2 on Satuday after entering as a pinch-hitter, and went 0-for-4 with two more strikeouts in the series finale on Sunday.
The previous record for most consecutive at-bats by a position player without a hit was 46, set by Eugenio Velez in 2011.
