PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Punxsutawney Phil is grabbing the headlines today, but for many, the past 12 months have been like Groundhog Day.

The prognostication scheduled from Gobbler’s Knob forced to be virtual in 2021 due to COVID-19 only reinforces how our world has changed.

Of course, Groundhog Day has acquired a new meaning for many who have seen the 1993 movie.

In the movie, a man is given a gift of sorts — an opportunity to repeat the same day over and over again until he discovers his purpose.

Of course, there is no purpose or reason for the coronavirus except to spread and attack and stay alive by finding new hosts.

Yet, for many of us living in the pandemic, our life has become like the character in Groundhog Day with little opportunity to experience many of the things we used to take for granted.

Psychologists have suggested many of us have learned to treasure our life, and more importantly, treasure others as a result of all that has happened.
