Do you still have your coronavirus vaccination record card?
While federal health officials urged safekeeping of the cards, its size didn't lend any favors -- too bulky to fit in a standard size wallet yet small enough to lose track of easily.
If you've misplaced or damaged your vaccine card, don't worry. You have several options to replace the card, which you may need to show proof of vaccination in certain instances.
The first step you should take is determine where you received your shots. Did you go to a mass clinic, the local pharmacy, your doctor's office?
If you received your vaccines at a popup clinic that is no longer around, you can contact your county or state health department to access your immunization records. Some state health departments also allow you to access this information online. The process to replace your card could take several days, depending on where you live.
If you went to the local pharmacy, urgent care clinic or your doctor's office, replacing your vaccination card should be a snap. Those locations will likely have a record of your immunizations and can issue you a new vaccine card. You can either call or visit the location where you received your shots in person to get a new card.
Not all doctor's offices or clinics offer replacement cards. However, they should still be able to provide you with proof of your vaccinations.
If you can't remember when or where you received your vaccination, contact your state health department for further information.
As for what you shouldn't do in your mission to replace your card, do not contact the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Although their logo is on the card, the agency does not maintain vaccination records. You also should not buy a fake card, make your own card or fill in a blank card with false information; all three actions are considered fraud.
There is currently no federal mandate to carry the vaccination cards. However, local ordinances may require proof of vaccination status to attend certain venues, businesses and restaurants. The cards are also required for those who are traveling internationally.
