Lane Johnson has played alongside plenty of stellar linemen in his career, and he’s bullish about Cam Jurgens’ potential.

Drafted as a center out of college, the second-year pro won the starting right guard job out of camp. He only logged 35 snaps last season on offense, a number he could surpass in Sunday’s season opener alone.

Jason Kelce returning for another season blocked Jurgens’ path to playing time at center, paving the way for him to transition to right guard. Johnson said Tuesday on the 94 WIP Afternoon Show that the transition has been smooth as could be.

“It’s been really good. The first week of the transition was learning, but after that he really picked up, his technique took off,” Johnson said. “The thing about Cam is he’s really strong, so everything he can do in the run game and get to the second level, similar to (Jason) Kelce, was kind of his movement, so we’re excited about that.

“Got to work on it during OTAs, and really after the first week of camp once we got pads on, it really was kind of seamless. So, I’m expecting big things from him. He works hard, he’s a great guy, and, yeah man, just another war daddy on the line.”

While there are sure to be learning curves during the season, the 2022 second-round pick should greatly benefit from all the experience surrounding him. He enters this season with Johnson to his right and Kelce to his left, with Landon Dickerson and Jordan Mailata in line to start at left guard and left tackle, respectively.
