Giglio: 'Trea Turner is not a 300 million dollar player'

Joe Giglio is doubling down, saying after watching a full season of Trea Turner, he does not believe the Phillies' shortstop is a 300 million dollar player.

"Trea Turner stunk the last three games," Giglio said on Wednesday's 94WIP Midday Show. "Guys, I said this in June, I'm not going back to the contract thing now. I watched a full season of Trea Turner here. He's not a 300 million dollar player, I'm sorry. It was cute what happened with the ovation, it was an awesome moment. I watched him play 180-something games this year. If you think that's a 300 million dollar player, I disagree with you. He's a good player, he's not bad, but that's not a 300 million dollar player. He swings out of his shoes, he's a below average shortstop, he has no plate discipline, he's fast, he slides cool and he had a cool moment with the fans. That's the truth.

"It's frustrating. He's supposed to be the missing piece. Right? That's why they signed him. Dave Dombrowski, 300 million dollars. He's supposed to put them over the top. He came up small at the end."

On June 2nd, Giglio said he would undo the 11-year, $300 million Turner contract if he could.

Turner had an incredible National League Divisional Series going 8 for 17 with two home runs. In fact, overall, he was 17-49 (.347) with five doubles, three home runs, five RBIs, five walks and four stolen bases in 13 games this postseason.

But in the final five games of the National League Championship Series, Turner was just 2-19 with four strikeouts and the Phillies blew 2-0 and 3-2 series leads, losing in seven games.
