Matthew Perry’s legacy will live on after a foundation was launched in his name.
The Matthew Perry Foundation was launched this week and aims to help those struggling with addiction.
“The Matthew Perry Foundation is the realization of Matthew's enduring commitment to helping others struggling with the disease of addiction,” the mission statement on the foundation’s website read. “It will honor his legacy and be guided by his own words and experiences and driven by his passion for making a difference in as many lives as possible.”
The actor, who was found dead at his Los Angeles home on Oct. 28, detailed his struggles with drug and alcohol addiction in his memoir, “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing.”
Following news of his death, a quote by the actor about how he wanted to be remembered for helping others circulated on social media. That quote is featured on the website.
“When I die, I don't want 'Friends' to be the first thing that's mentioned – I want helping others to be the first thing that's mentioned. And I'm going to live the rest of my life proving that,” it read. “Addiction is far too powerful for anyone to defeat alone. But together, one day at a time, we can beat it down.”
The actor’s cause of death was listed as "deferred” as of Oct. 31.
