The 22-year-old was recently featured on the cover of Vogue and in a corresponding interview, revealed she’s regretted ever being open about her sexuality. Fans will remember Eilish sharing she is attracted to both women and men in an interview for Variety’s "Power of Women" issue in November 2023.

“I wish no one knew anything about my sexuality or anything about my dating life. Ever, ever, ever,” Eilish shared with Vogue nearly one year after allegedly “coming out.” “And I hope that they never will again.” She added, “I’m never talking about my sexuality ever again… I’m never talking about who I’m dating ever again.”

The multi-GRAMMY winner says her decision to keep her love life private is absolutely a result of how much attention she got following her comments to Variety last year. “I guess I also underestimate that things I say will be blown up into the biggest news of the whole world,” she expressed. “Who f***ing cares? The whole world suddenly decided who I was, and I didn’t get to say anything or control any of it.”

She concluded, “Nobody should be pressured into being one thing or the other, and I think that there’s a lot of wanting labels all over the place. Dude, I’ve known people that don’t know their sexuality, or feel comfortable with it, until they’re in their forties, fifties, sixties. It takes a while to find yourself, and I think it’s really unfair, the way that the internet bullies you into talking about who you are and what you are.”

This isn’t the first time Eilish has expressed her regret for being open about her sexuality. She also opened up in December 2023, nearly one month after she made the initial comments, saying she didn’t think it was a big deal and believed everybody “already knew.”

While on the red carpet for Variety’s Hitmakers Brunch event last December, Billie was asked if she had intended to come out during the Variety interview. Replying, “No I didn’t, but I kinda thought… wasn’t it obvious? I just didn’t realize people didn’t know.”

“I just don’t really believe in it,” she added of the concept of coming out. “I’m just like, ‘Why can’t we just exist?’ I’ve been doing this for a long time, and I just didn’t talk about it. Whoops.”

She continued, “I saw the article and I was like, oh… I guess… I came out today… OK, cool. But it’s exciting to me because I guess people didn’t know… but it’s cool that they know, ooh I’m nervous talking about it… but no, I am for the girls.”

Despite being “excited” to talk about it, after the event, Billie took to social media to thank and not so subtly call out Variety for turning the passing remark into click-bait.

“Thanks variety for my award and for also outing me on a red carpet at 11am instead of talking about anything else that matters,” she wrote. “I like boys and girls leave me alone about it please literally who cares? Stream ‘what was i made for.’”

Over the last year, Eilish has been focusing on the music with the release of her third studio album, Hit Me Hard and Soft in May. Stream it now.
