Ariana Grande made her debut as a judge on the season 21 premiere of The Voice last night on NBC. As the 28-year-old showed up ready to compete against her fellow judges to secure the best talent for her team, fellow judge Blake Shelton claims he is still trying to heal from the last competition he had against Grande back in 2016.

Ahead of Monday night’s premiere, Shelton told PEOPLE his "dreams were destroyed" in 2016 when Ari released her album, Dangerous Woman, on the same day as his album, If I'm Honest.

"I released the album, and I had some momentum going at that point musically," Shelton shared. "I was excited thinking that this might be my chance to have the No. 1 album in the country."

Shelton soon received a call from his label telling him he didn’t stand a chance at being #1 in the country against Grande’s release.

"Literally, I may as well have released a coaster of a CD," said Shelton, blaming Ariana. "You trashed my album!”

Grande showed no mercy for Shelton, as she quipped back joking she was going to release her own version of Shelton’s If I’m Honest. Hah! You tell ‘em, Ari!

Ariana and Blake are joined by fellow judges Kelly Clarkson and John Legend for the show, which airs every Monday and Tuesday night on NBC.
