New Orleans-area McDonald’s restaurants will be serving hot meals for free to thousands of local residents still struggling in the wake of Hurricane Ida.

A press release from McDonald’s states that the fast-food franchise will be making grab-and-go meals including cheeseburgers, French fries, apple slices and water bottles available from 10am-2pm each day September 8-11.

The meals will be distributed from the McRig, a tractor-trailer that houses a near-complete McDonald’s kitchen. The McRig will be parked and handing out meals at 1918 North Broad Street in New Orleans.

A makeshift drive-thru setup will allow hungry residents to stay in their cars and observe COVID protocols as the meals are handed out by local McDonald’s employees.
