A stop sign blown away during Hurricane Ida has led to a fatal crash in Lafourche Parish.
Louisiana State Police say a 33-year-old Courtney Rogers of Galliano died several days later after Dale Robicheaux of Cut Off drove through the intersection and collided with her vehicle.
According to LSP Trooper Ross Brennan, the investigation revealed Robicheaux was traveling west on LA 3161 in a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado. As he approached the intersection with LA 3235, he failed to yield to approaching traffic.
The Chevrolet entered the intersection and was struck by a northbound 2021 Hyundai Accent driven by Rogers.
“There was a stop sign, typically that is there, it was blown away, however, on the highway there is a white painted line that indicates to stop there,” said Trooper Brennan.
He says Robicheaux failed to stop or yield because the stop sign was gone. Rogers could not stop and t-boned him.
She died as a result of her injuries. Brennan says Robicheaux suffered moderate injuries. This crash remains under investigation.
