Republican Congresswoman Julia Letlow will soon be moving to the other side of the Capitol.
Letlow is the first Republican woman elected to the Senate from Louisiana.
She began her campaign shortly after receiving the endorsement of President Donald Trump in the closed primary. She defeated incumbent Bill Cassidy, riding a tide of Republican anger at Cassidy for his vote to convict Mr. Trump for the January 6 impeachment.
Letlow defeated Democrat Jamie Davis, a farmer from Tensas Parish who made an unexpectedly strong surge late in the campaign. Despite better-than-expected turnout in Democratic strongholds such as New Orleans and Caddo Parish, the momentum fell short.
Letlow is he first Republican woman elected to the Senate from Louisiana.
