Cooper and his former partner, Benjamin Maisani, welcomed a baby boy named Sebastian Luke Maisani-Cooper.

The newborn was born via surrogate and weighed 6.8 pounds.

“He is healthy and happy, and even his occasional hiccups are to me adorable,” Cooper said. “He mostly just sleeps and eats, and he certainly poops, but he already seems like a wise and thoughtful little chap.”

Cooper and Maisani also share a 1-year-old son named Wyatt, who they raised together. The anchor noted that it will be the same situation for Sebastian.

“We are co-parents. Wyatt calls me Daddy, and Benjamin is Papa,” Cooper noted.

As of now, Maisani is in the process of adopting Wyatt, and the 1-year-old’s last name will officially be Maisani-Cooper.

“Wyatt helped us put together Sebastian’s crib and calls his little brother by his middle name, Luke,” Cooper said. “Sebastian is a mouthful for a 22-month-old.”

At the start of the pandemic in 2020, Cooper revealed the news of his first son’s birth.

“On Monday, I became a father,” Cooper, 54, said. “I’ve never actually said that before, and it still kind of astonishes me. I am a dad. I have a son.”

“He is named after my dad who died when I was 10 years old,” he explained. Morgan is a name from his mother’s family tree, Gloria Vanderbilt, who died in 2019.

“I do wish my mom and dad and my brother, Carter were alive to meet Wyatt,” Cooper said, “but I like to believe they can see him. I imagine them all together, arms around each other, smiling and laughing... happy to know that their love is alive in me and in Wyatt... and that our family continues. New life. New love.”

Cooper also said that Wyatt was born via surrogate. “I am eternally grateful to a remarkable surrogate who carried Wyatt, watched over him lovingly, tenderly, and gave birth to him,” he said.

He added, “I never thought it would be possible to have a child, and I am so grateful for all those who have paved the way, and for the doctors and nurses and everyone involved in my son’s birth.”
