Audacy Check In: NIckelback

Nickelback is hitting harder than ever with their 11th studio album, Everything Under The Sun, now available everywhere. The band recently joined Abe Kanan for an Audacy Check In to take us inside the project, the origins of some of the songs, and the special experience of mixing the album at Abbey Road Studios.

All four members of Nickelback - Chad Kroeger, Mike Kroeger, Ryan Peake, and Daniel Adair - walked us through the unexpected trajectory of their single "Bones for the Crows," which was originally shared with WWE's Triple H before the album was completed. Plus they offered up behind-the-scenes stories of "Rattle the Cage," "Leave Me Behind," and "Make Me Love You."

The band also looked back on mixing the record at London’s iconic Abbey Road Studios, as the group crossed the pond with cameras, and even found a 160 person choir for backing vocals for “Simple Song.”

“They're like, ‘oh, there's a 160 person choir across the hall singing in studio 1’” reveals Chad about their time at the famed studio. “I look at him and a second later and I go, ‘is the universe just handing us a gift?’”

“On the first pass, the round of these big ‘na-nas,’ I was like, ‘oh,’ and I just got chills the whole way down my body. And on the second round, it was even more confident and even louder, and I started welling up. It was so powerful."

To hear more about Nickelback’s upcoming tour, how Chad’s girlfriend helped create “Technicolor Steamboat,” and how their lawyer helped push the band to number one, watch the full Audacy Check In above.
