There’s an old saying that goes, “You always remember your first.”

First what? Doesn’t matter. Let's assume they meant “first Mardi Gras in New Orleans.” Need evidence? Exhibit A is actor Josh Duhamel.

The 49-year-old star of hit movies like the "Transformers" franchise, hit TV series like long-running soap opera "All My Children" and NBC’s "Las Vegas," even hit video games like Call of Duty, is living it up in the Big Easy this weekend, experiencing Mardi Gras in person for the first time in one of the best possible ways - as King of the Krewe of Bacchus.

“It is wild. It is crazy. But it’s really so steeped in tradition, too,” Duhamel said of his crash course in Carnival season. “That’s one thing that we’re all learning, how this is in the blood of the people who live here… I’m having a blast!”

Duhamel appeared on WWL Radio’s Scoot Show to talk about the first few days of his reign and said he was taken aback when he realized the sheer scope of the festivities he will be presiding over.

“I truly felt like a kid doing into Disneyland for the first time,” Duhamel said of his reaction to stepping into the Bacchus den and seeing the floats that have been prepared for this year’s roll through the streets of New Orleans.

“It’s going to be one of those things that I’m never, ever going to forget,” he continued.

And he says he’s eager to commune with the people of one of the world’s most unique cities.

“It’s the tradition. It’s the history. It’s the music. It’s the food,” Duhamel said when asked what makes the Crescent City special to him. “There’s just something about this city that is unique from any other city from any other city in the country. You know when you’re in New Orleans.

“It’s got a sound. It’s just got a certain vibe that I’ve grown to really love.”
