Harkening back to the fevered days of 1970s feminism, actress Gillian Anderson made a declarative public statement that she’s burning her bras.

Well, maybe she won’t burn them, but as Yahoo Life reported, the “X-Files” alum revealed on Monday that she’s no longer sporting the supporting undergarment.

We’re guessing most women will relate to her reasoning.

“I don’t wear a bra anymore,” Anderson says in an Instagram Live post on Monday. “I can’t wear a bra. I’m sorry. I don’t care if my breasts reach my belly button. I’m not wearing a bra, it’s just too f****** uncomfortable.”

And in fact, many commenters did give the digital thumbs up to Anderson’s promise.

“I don't wear bras anymore,” one fan wrote. “I wear tank tops with the shelf bra. Much more comfortable.”

“Me too!” exclaimed another. “17 months isolation/working from home, then retirement…Gillian is absolutely correct, bras are a torture device! (For women anyway!)”

Admittedly, for Anderson this is less fist-raised revolutionary and more tired actress, as she also admits in the clip, “I’m lazy.”

While the clip seemed like just a fun interaction with a friend, it does appear that bras may be yet another casualty of the pandemic era. After spending a year and a half stuck inside and working from home in their PJs, many women have been thinking about leaving their bras in the dresser drawer.

As Yahoo reports, “The Cut”’s Dayna Evans recently wrote about how while many people are resuming their pre-pandemic life, their bras are not joining them.

The reasons for ditching bras range from realizing just how uncomfortable they really are after a year or so of not having to wear them, to discovering that they never served much of a purpose in the first place.

And In Style magazine has already reported in March that “in the second half of 2020, women's apparel was down 21 percent, but bra sales were up. The difference? It was comfier options like sports bras and bralettes leading the uptick, with underwire bra sales remaining down.”

There is some intriguing timing with Anderson’s declaration, considering she’s currently starring in Netflix’s “Sex Education.” The series returns Friday September 17, after a long layoff due to COVID. We’ll see if bras make a special guest appearance.
