Judy Spiegel’s family has been dealing with the unthinkable ever since the mother and grandmother’s condo collapsed in Surfside, Florida, on June 24.
Today, Spiegel is one of 128 people still unaccounted for as rescue efforts desperately work around the clock to search for survivors. Spiegel's family still has no information on the 66-year-old’s whereabouts, Today reports.
"My body can't stop shaking. I have no appetite. I can't sleep," Speigel's daughter, Rachel, wrote alongside a series of family photos on Instagram. "All I want to do is hold my mom's hand and tell her I love her."
The mother of two has also been troubled by the difficult task of explaining the tragedy to her four-year-old daughter, Scarlett.
"Scarlett told us that she is really good at playing hide-and-seek and is probably hiding in a really good spot," Rachel wrote of her first born. "I told her that she is and that we have asked a ton of people to help us look for her. We told her that I have been on the news asking for help."
Rachel shared her daughter's emotional response to the news of her missing grandmother in an interview with CNN.
"She told me, 'I can go get her, I want to go get her, because I know where she hides, I'm really good at finding her,’" Rachel shared. "And so when she's telling me that, I'm crying even more, but trying to keep my composure because I don't want my four-year-old to worry too much."
Rachel also shared a video of Scarlett playing with her missing grandmother on her second birthday.
“When Scarlett woke up this morning, I told her that I was working everyday and every night to find Grandma,” Rachel wrote. “Today is day 7. We are still praying for a miracle ❤️ I love you so so much Mom. You are our everything 😘”
As of Friday, authorities have confirmed 20 deaths, including two children, and are still searching for 128 unaccounted people in the Champlain Towers South collapse.
