Just about two weeks after delivering Barn, his latest LP with Crazy Horse, rocker in the free world Neil Young spoke of a planned return to the studio to produce another offering.

Now fans will be happy to learn that there’s a new, lost but “not forgotten” album to stick on the turntable, titled Summer Songs, containing eight tracks recorded by Young in 1987.
Subscribers of his Neil Young Archives project are currently the holders of the keys to this new record, but there are plans for a wider release in the near future.
Of the eight tracks, “Last of His Kind” is the only title that has never been given a proper release. The album’s other tracks have been included in later releases, like “Wrecking Ball,” “Someday” and “Hangin’ on a Limb” which were a part of 1989’s Freedom; “One of These Days” from 1992’s Harvest Moon, “For the Love of Man” from 2012’s Psychedelic Pill; and finally the tracks “American Dream” and “Name of Love” which were featured on Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young’s 1988 album, American Dream.
“I think you will enjoy this very cool recording,” Young told his subscribers. “‘American Dream’ feels more real than ever. How could somethin’ so good go bad so fast? Wow, that was a little sad. But things are still good down on the farm right? Not so fast.”
“To give you an idea of place and time, Farm Aid and the Bridge School Concerts had just begun their long runs," Young Explains on his website. "This group of songs had just been written and put down in the studio… I don’t remember the sessions at all!” Young adds, “the words of these originals are significantly different from their subsequent master album releases in many cases. Several completely new and unheard verses are found in the songs of this collection.” Look for a wider release "in mid 2022 by my friends at Reprise Records.”
