Bettor loses $700,000 on Patriots bets in Monday night thrashing vs. Bills

With 14 minutes left in the Bills-Patriots Week 16 clash, predominantly blocking-only tight end Lee Smith caught a pass from Josh Allen and took it for 27 yards.

"It's all going right for Buffalo tonight," play-by-play announcer Steve Levy said. Shortly after, Stefon Diggs hauled in his third touchdown of the night.

And while Levy was absolutely correct in his analysis of the Bills' fortune, the complete opposite could be said for one very, very unlucky bettor.

Oh man. Oh man, oh man. There are a lot of clues that indicated this may not have been the smartest bet to make, most important of which is that the Bills are a top Super Bowl contender and the Patriots have been all but a literal dumpster fire lately.

Then again, the 2020 iteration of Belichick's squad certainly hasn't been the easiest to predict. The same team that defeated the Baltimore Ravens in Week 10 lost to the lowly Houston Texans in Week 11 — the same Texans that J.J. Watt passionately ripped to shreds just a day ago.

And then the Patriots defeated the Los Angeles Chargers by, oh, just 45 points before scoring one-fifteenth of that total the very next week, going down 24-3 at the hands of the Los Angeles Rams.

So who the hell knows how the next Patriots game will go? Apparently not this bettor, seeing as he/she needed Cam Newton to at least keep it close or, better yet, win over the red-hot Bills. Needless to say, that didn't exactly go as planned.

Then again — as I say with all of these bets — if you have $700,000 to spare in the first place, you hopefully aren't hurting too, too badly at the conclusion of a rough betting night.
