Dont’a Hightower doesn’t sound pleased with how he played in Week 1

FOXBOROUGH — Last Sunday against Miami was Dont’a Hightower’s first game in roughly 20 months and while he recorded four tackles, he didn’t sound overly pleased with his performance.

“I pride myself on being — not the smartest guy, but definitely want to push up my awareness as far as situational awareness,” he said Thursday. “Just all-around, I want to play better, obviously. It’s coming along, but obviously I want to play a lot better. Be a little bit more impactful. It’s Week 1 and we’re still growing. I’m not going to beat myself up about it, but obviously the more guys who play the best that they can, it helps out the team. I want to do a little bit better than that.”

Overall, the defense finished with two sacks and one interception against Miami. Hightower would like to make more of an impact on the game.

“I just know I can do a lot better than what I am doing, so I just want to pick up my end of the slack on that,” he added.

Despite missing all of last year, Hightower was on the field a good amount in his first game back, playing 42 of 54 defensive snaps.

Hightower and the rest of the team will look to bounce back Sunday against the Jets.
