It appears Christian Gonzalez avoided serious injury

Patriots fans can exhale a bit. It appears star cornerback Christian Gonzalez, who left Monday's practice early and did not practice Tuesday, has avoided any kind of serious injury.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz was first with the update on Tuesday, reporting that while Gonzalez did suffer a hamstring injury that will "sideline him for a bit," the injury is not expected to affect his availability for Week 1 of the regular season.

Ultimately, that last part is really all that matters, even if Gonzalez does miss more practice time and even preseason games.

The Patriots have also been without fellow corner Carlton Davis in practices thus far, which certainly isn't ideal. Cornerback should be New England's strongest position group, but that's only if Gonzalez and Davis are healthy and on the field.

For now, they're not. Based on Schultz's report, at least Gonzalez should be ready to go when the games matter. The Patriots will hope the same is true for Davis.
