You can forget about another Mitch Moreland-Red Sox reunion.
According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the former Boston first baseman has agreed to a one-year major-league deal with the Oakland Athletics.
Moreland, 35, spent three and a half seasons with the Red Sox and helped them win the World Series in 2018 before being traded to the San Diego Padres at last year's trade deadline.
He was off to a strong start last season in Boston, hitting .328 with eight home runs, 21 RBIs and a 1.177 OPS in 22 games. But he struggled once he got to San Diego, hitting .203 with two home runs, eight RBIs and a .609 OPS in 20 regular-season games. He did get going in a small sample in the playoffs, though, going 4-for-8 in two series in a platoon role.
Passan's report makes it sound like Moreland is expected to DH in Oakland, which would make sense since the Athletics have Gold Glover Matt Olson at first and just traded away usual designated hitter Khris Davis.
