McCardell has been in that role with Minnesota for the last two seasons, working with one of the best wide receivers in the game during that time in Justin Jefferson.

McCardell previously held the same role with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2017-20), the University of Maryland (2014-15) and Washington Redskins (2010-11). He has never been a coordinator before.

McCardell played 16 seasons in the NFL from 1992-2007, including four under Bill Belichick in Cleveland from 1992-95.

McCardell joins Bill O'Brien and Nick Caley as known candidates for the Patriots' offensive coordinator job. O'Brien, most recently the OC at Alabama, reportedly has the backing of ownership and is widely believed to be the favorite. Caley, the Patriots' current tight ends coach, is interviewing for the job on Wednesday, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
