Damian Lillard has finally requested a trade out of Portland, and he wants to team up with Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo in Miami. But, the Blazers may not be so quick to take care of their franchise centerpiece, unlike other teams who’ve tried to take care of departing superstars.

Despite that, it still seems likely that Lillard will be moved. It just might not be to where he desires. Since he does not have a no-trade clause in his contract, other franchises have been able to throw their hat in the ring.

Enter Boston.

TNT’s Chris Haynes has reported on the #thisleague UNCUT podcast that the Celtics are among the teams who have reached out to Portland regarding Lillard.

“The Clippers, the Timberwolves, Pelicans (and) Boston Celtics — those are the teams off the top of my head,” Haynes said. “I’m pretty sure there were more. Those were the teams that I know called out to reach out to see what it would take.”

But it doesn’t end there. ESPN’s Marc Spears reported Jayson Tatum has also been courting the All-NBA point guard.

“Jayson Tatum is knocking on that door now, too, trying to figure out a way to get (Lillard) to come to Boston,” Spears said on ESPN’s NBA Today.

It would take a lot to bring in Lillard. Boston would have to give up some serious talent and assets. But, it would be a huge win-now move and may be exactly what the franchise needs to get Banner 18.
