the rich keefe show: is bill belichick on the hot seat?

Death, taxes, and Asante Samuel having a weird gripe about Bill Belichick.

The former Patriots cornerback is constantly getting himself into the mud on social media, most recently over an argument with Darrelle Revis on who was a better player, and has come back again this week with another hot take.

Samuel was asked by CBS Sports if Bill Belichick is the best coach in NFL history - something he had a quick and convicted answer on:

“Absolutely not. Are you crazy? Look at his record without Tom! You got to win without Tom!”

For those keeping score at home, Belichick has just a 79-87 record without Brady as his quarterback heading into 2023.

“One thing I learned about being great,” Samuel continued. “You’ve got to be great in different situations. It was ALL Tom. I was there. I saw it. It was Tom. Everybody know it. Tom know it, but he ain’t going to admit it because he wants to be politically correct.”

"That’s why I’m here," Samuel said. "Imma tell the truth. I’ve been there, I’ve seen it, I confronted him. We’ve been through it. That’s how I do it."

This isn’t the first time Samuel has been vocal about his distaste for his former head coach. Back in March, when Lamar Jackson rumors were swirling, he tweeted this:

The post got a response from Matthew Judon, who told him, “Hush up. It’s different over here". Samuel replied with, “No, it not… you are just a little brainwashed right now.”

I'm not exactly sure when Samuel's dislike for the Patriots began. He's a two-time Super Bowl Champion with the club, was an All-Pro in 2007, and his performance on defense for the undefeated (regular season) squad led to him signing a massive six-year, $56 million contract with the Eagles.

Samuel’s son, Asante Samuel Jr., is now a professional and plays cornerback for the Los Angeles Chargers - who the Patriots play on December 3. Perhaps Belichick, O’Brien, and co. will have something drawn up for the kid, who now has to deal with his father yapping about his opponents.
