Trevor Bauer has become the epitome of the social media athlete.

So, it only makes sense that his posts are now showing up on Facebook as sponsored content.

One fan posted on Twitter a screenshot of a sponsored post by Bauer in which he is photoshopped pitching in a New York Mets uniform, asking Mets fans what they think?

The sponsored post, which means Bauer or someone on his team paid Facebook to boost its visibility, is likely all part of the analytically driven strategy the pitcher and his agent, Rachel Luba, have taken with his free agency.

The pairing of Bauer and Luba seem like a match made in heaven – with Bauer among the more analytically savvy players in the game and Luba, 28, whose agency – Luba Sports -- emphasizes analytics and branding off the field, which includes offering social media and marketing services.

Bauer is arguably the top free agent in baseball this winter following a career-year in which he won the NL Cy Young Award and also the most interesting due to his outspokenness and online presence.

Teams like the Mets, Dodgers, Giants and Angels have all been linked to Bauer, although the right-hander has seemingly kept all his options open, even teasing possibly playing in Japan, however unlikely.

As the Winter Meetings proceed, Bauer’s free agency continues to be one of the more fascinating to follow and perhaps a look into the future of how other players may use social media to maximize their value.
