The Washington Football Team lost quarterback Kyle Allen to a gruesome-looking leg injury Sunday.

Allen suffered what appears to be an injury to his left ankle when he was hit in the first quarter by the New York Giants’ Jabrill Peppers.

A cart was brought onto the field and Allen had his leg placed in an air cast. Washington turned to veteran quarterback Alex Smith, who he himself suffered a gruesome leg injury at FedEx Field in November 2018.

Allen acknowledged the crowd at FedEx Field as he was taken off the field.

Quarterback Dwayne Haskins, Washington’s first-round draft pick from 2019, is inactive Sunday. Tight End Logan Thomas is the team’s emergency quarterback.

It was the second time this season that a quarterback went down with a gruesome leg injury against the Giants. Earlier this year, Dak Prescott sustained a compound ankle fracture after taking a hit from Giants cornerback Logan Ryan.

Smith, meanwhile, is making his second appearance since his long comeback from his injury. He was 9 for 17 with 37 yards in that game.
