Jermaine Wiggins is on the record as not being a big believer in Mac Jones. In fact, he’s ready to trade the young quarterback if it means getting an upgrade at the position that could help turn the Patriots into a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
On Wednesday’s Greg Hill Show, Wiggy identified two trade possibilities that he would jump on in a heartbeat if he were in charge of the Patriots: Trading Jones to Houston for Deshaun Watson, or to Seattle for Russell Wilson.
“We have seen, in order for you to win a Super Bowl, you must have an elite quarterback, and you don’t have that,” Wiggy said.
Watson, who is facing 22 civil cases that allege sexual assault or inappropriate behavior, did not play at all this past season. He has requested a trade and is expected to be moved at some point this offseason.
Wiggy said he’s not worried that it’s been so long since Watson last played.
“I’ve seen him play before. I know what Deshaun Watson can do,” he said.
Meanwhile in Seattle, there has been speculation going back to last offseason that Wilson and the Seahawks are heading towards an eventual divorce, although some of that talk has been blunted recently with reports of some smoothing-over conversations between the 33-year-old Wilson and coach Pete Carroll.
Wiggy believes Wilson still has enough good years left to make him a worthy target, and thinks Jones could have some appeal to Carroll as Seattle’s next quarterback.
“I would love to trade him to Seattle, because they clearly have issues with Russell Wilson,” Wiggy said. “He wants out. Pete Carroll gets the quarterback that he can control for the price that he wants. … And then you as the New England Patriots, getting back to the Super Bowl, because this is what it’s for, you get a top-seven quarterback in the NFL in Russell Wilson, who still has seven elite years ahead of him.”
