Hosted by the likes of actors Owen Wilson, Helen Mirren, Ethan Hawke, and Jennifer Garner, Willie Nelson's two-night run at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, dubbed Long Story Short: Willie Nelson 90, kicked off on his actual birthday, Saturday, April 29, with performances spanning multiple genres, featuring Neil Young, rapper Snoop Dogg, country star Chris Stapleton, The Grateful Dead's Bob Weir, The Lumineers, Norah Jones, George Strait, Miranda Lambert, Tom Jones, Jack Johnson, Sturgill Simpson, Beck, The Chicks, Leon Bridges, Ziggy Marley, Margo Price and Nathaniel Rateliff, and more.
During the evening, he was also joined by his 86-year-old Highwaymen bandmate Kris Kristofferson, and the 'Man in Black' Johnny Cash's daughter Rosanne Cash for a rendition of “Loving Her Was Easier (Than Anything I’ll Ever Do Again).”
Night two saw another list of collaborators take the stage along with many from night one, including Dave Matthews, Sheryl Crow, Emmylou Harris, The Rolling Stones' Keith Richards, and more -- even Stephen Stills hit the stage on Sunday with Neil Young for a version of their 1966 Buffalo Springfield track, “For What It’s Worth”
Finally, Willie welcomed all of the event’s collaborators on stage to join him for a rendition of the Carter Family’s 1935 song, “Can The Circle Be Unbroken?,” a longtime Nelson favorite and classic Country music closer, as well as a big ol' "Happy Birthday."
As best he could, given all of the incredible guests, Willie provided some proof of the evenings on his social channels, as you can see above. But it wasn't just Willie doing the celebrating on his special day... the Austin FC professional soccer team also *ahem* rolled out a tribute in celebration of the Texas-born musician's 90th.
Happy 90th Willie! Take a look at both night's set lists and 90 pictures of Willie that he shared for his 90 years below.
