Bond Club celebrates 100 years with scholarships for aspiring investment pros

Organization has created endowment for underprivileged high school, undergraduate college students

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Philadelphia organization dedicated to financial education is kicking off its 100th year with scholarships for underprivileged students in the area.

The Bond Club of Philadelphia is one of the oldest organizations of its kind. It was founded in 2022 to provide education for and foster cooperation among investment professionals.

After a century of philanthropic work, the club isn't slowing down. It is endowing a scholarship to high school and undergraduate college students. It's named after Howard A. Trauger, the current and longest-serving president of the Bond Club, since 2014.

"[The endowment] marks the fulfillment of a 50-year pledge I made to help provide financial relief to students like me, who found it necessary to work while they attended college," said Trauger, who also served as president from 2003 to 2004.

Trauger said Philadelphia has historically served as a financial center for the country and that the Bond Club has been a part of that legacy. It has has done that, he said, by adapting to the changing landscape of the city.

The club president said he helped create the scholarship to ensure the financial community reflects Philadelphia's diversity, while giving students access to mentors and more.

"In connection with the scholarship, recipients will be granted unique entrees to some of the best leaders within the Philadelphia investment community," said Trauger.
