PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Two people are in custody after a stabbing on the Blue Route and a wild police chase that briefly caused a shelter-in-place at Villanova University on Sunday.
It started around 5:30 p.m. on I-476 southbound near Exit 13, around Radnor and Lower Merion townships.
Officials told NBC10 the crash involved a U-Haul and a Mercedes, and a fight ensued. The person in the Mercedes was stabbed in the stomach, and the two people in the U-Haul drove off.
Pennsylvania and Lower Merion Township police pursued them. During the chase, a Lower Merion officer crashed at Pennswood Road and Montgomery Avenue. Authorities said he was not injured.
Police said the suspects later abandoned the U-Haul at a Sunoco gas station on Lancaster Avenue and ran off. Officers received reports that they had a gun and a knife, prompting the lockdown at Villanova.
About an hour later, one suspect was apprehended at the gas station, and the other at a nearby park.
Police have not revealed the condition of the man who was stabbed.
