CAMDEN COUNTY, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — The Camden County Commissioners recently passed a budget that reduced the county levy by $5 million this year.
What does this mean for homeowners? With this nearly 8% reduction in property taxes, Camden County officials say a family would save about $240 a year for property assessed at $300,000.
Commissioner Ed McDonnell says county leaders understand how tight budgets have become recently, with the costs of gasoline and everyday items soaring. That's why they worked to save as much money as possible, he said. The end result is $5 million for the year.
“We put everything on hold, whether it was new trucks for the Department of Public Works or filling personnel vacancies or repairs to buildings. Anything that we could put off, that didn’t have to be done right now, we’re just not doing,” McDonnell said.
Camden County residents should be aware: This is not a permanent reduction of the tax bill. The county lowered the fee charged to municipalities this year only without reducing any of the current services offered.
