PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The 59-year-old man charged with the strangulation death of his wife in Bristol was taken to the hospital for mental health reasons just days before, but was released as “low risk.”
54-year-old Dawn Myers was found dead with multiple neckties around her neck in a second-floor bedroom of her home in Bristol Borough, discovered there by her son Thursday morning.
When police arrived, he told them that his stepfather, 59-year-old Michael Myers, had been taken to the hospital on Tuesday, August 11, for threatening self-harm. He was ruled “low risk” and released on Wednesday.
He told police that after discovering her body, he went downstairs to find Myers at the bottom of the steps, hands on each side blocking his exit. The son hit him on the side of the head with his phone to escape.
As he spoke to police outside the house, his stepfather stood behind the glass front door of his home. The son pointed to Myers and told police, “He did it.”
Police say Myers followed their commands to step outside and was taken into custody, still wearing his hospital bracelet, with scratches and bruises on his wrists, arms, neck and face.
He is held without bail for criminal homicide, strangulation and related charges.
