CHERRY HILL, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — Kids and adults with disabilities took to a Camden County baseball field Saturday for the final game of a special season.
All games in the Miracle League end in a tie, but everybody wins. Miracle League general manager Arthur Aston said this is made for anyone with any disability, and fun is the name of the game.
"Every player gets to bat. Every player gets to home plate. It’s just a really fun activity and it gets everybody up and moving, out of the house and socializing with each other," he said.
The league plays at Boundless Field in Cherry Hill, a baseball diamond with no grass or dirt. It's all painted rubber, and the only real rule is that everyone has a great time. Aston said the recently wrapped season was filled with smiles.
"It warms my heart to see us out here every week, and this is our last week for the summer," he said, "but we'll be back here in the fall to play again."
Errol Hall and his eight-year-old son Ryder will be back too. This was Ryder's first season and Hall said it won't be his last.
"It’s definitely a great opportunity for them to just learn the basics of baseball, and it's also nice having the volunteers out here with the kids," Hall said.
"I'm gonna actually be a volunteer next year as well," he added. "We're going to be volunteering in the fall, [Ryder's] going to participate as well. And we’re gonna tell his school about the event to make it bigger and grow."
And there's plenty of room for more. Anyone who wants to sign up can check out the program online.
