Medical Report: The future of COVID-19 vaccines

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is coming to grips with the fact that COVID-19 will be with us for quite some time. So, what does that mean for vaccines?

As of now, Americans who have chosen to participate in the vaccination effort have had a series of two vaccines — and, depending on eligibility and choice, could have had two additional boosters.

What is in store for next year? At the very least it appears the FDA will be developing an annual vaccine much like the one used for the flu. The hope is that COVID-19 can be treated like the flu with vaccinations and antivirals — saving as many lives as possible
