GLEN RIDGE, N.J. (WCBS 880) — For the fifth straight year, NJ Transit will hold the line on fares.

Gov. Phil Murphy announced Monday that customers won't pay more this year or during the first half of 2023.

“Without a single fare hike, NJ Transit has been drastically transformed and improved over the last five years,” said Murphy. “On-time performance is up, cancellations are down, and engineer ranks have been replenished. Under our administration, NJ Transit has been on the fast track to success and will remain a high priority in years to come. New Jersey commuters deserve a transit agency that works for them, and that is exactly what we are giving them.”

The governor also announced that Wi-Fi will be installed on all NJ Transit buses.

"I'm proud to announce that the state budget I will present one week from tomorrow will also support the installation of Wi-Fi connectivity on all NJ Transit buses so not only are we keeping your bus ride affordable, and it keeping it on time and dependable, but we're also making it more productive," Murphy said.

Newark-Penn Station will also be getting a $190 million makeover.

"Keep your eye on Newark-Penn Station where there will be a massive overhaul and recreation," said Lt. Gov. Sheila Oliver. "We want to compete with Union Station in Washington, D.C."
